FAQs

Do you take insurance?

We do not accept, bill, or participate in any insurance plans and are considered out-of-network. Your insurance company may reimburse you for out-of-network services, but this varies widely with each insurance plan. Contact your insurance representative for questions about your plan.

Do I still need health insurance?

We highly recommend having insurance coverage. Keep in mind, our membership isn’t an insurance plan or a replacement for health insurance. Having insurance is usually helpful for covering things like hospital bills, lab tests, imaging, vaccines, specialist visits, and medications. PPO plans make it easier to see specialists. High-deductible plans or healthshare plans can work well with Direct Primary Care (DPC), too. It’s a good idea to check with your insurance provider to see what works best for you.

How do I pay my membership fee?

Membership fees are charged monthly (on the first day of the month) to your bank account or credit card on file. A 3 month commitment is required for membership.

Can I use my HSA to pay for membership?

The use of an HSA card to pay for your membership fee should be discussed with your accountant and it is the parents' responsibility to ensure eligibility of use in accordance with IRS guidelines.

What if I decide to cancel my membership?

I understand that your needs may change, and I want to support you.  I do require a 30-day written notice for membership cancellation and a 3-month commitment as a member.

What services are not covered by my membership?

Visits to specialists, urgent care, emergency rooms, or admissions to the hospital, as well as lab work, x-rays, and prescriptions obtained outside Freedom Pediatrics & wellness. Vaccines are also not covered.

Strep tests, urinalysis, and blood glucose are included in your membership fee.

What is your vaccine policy?

Vaccination is an important and personal decision, and I understand that parents want to make the best choices for their child’s health. My role is to provide clear, evidence-based information from reliable sources so you can make informed decisions with confidence. Like any medical intervention, vaccines have both benefits and risks, and I encourage open, respectful discussions about them.

I fully support a parent's right to make medical decisions for their child. While I do not administer vaccines in my practice due to logistical and financial constraints, they are available through local health departments, pharmacies, or pediatric offices.

How easily can I get in to see Dr. Wong?

Many issues can be handled with a text or zoom, however if a house-call is needed, we can usually schedule within a day or two.

Do you make house calls?

Yes. I make house calls.

What if my child gets sick when we're on vacation?

Since I'm familiar with your health needs, I can help simplify your care when you're away from home. Many illnesses can be addressed through a quick phone call, email, or video chat. Once I assess the situation, I can prescribe medication, find the nearest urgent care or ER, and, if needed, share your child’s medical history with a local healthcare provider to ensure the best treatment.

Can I contact my physician after hours? And how?

If your child has a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 and seek emergency medical care. For non-urgent questions and medication refills, please send  a text. For urgent questions that cannot wait until the next morning, members will be given a way to contact me after hours.

My child is healthy and rarely gets sick. Why do I need a DPC pediatrician?

Having health insurance doesn’t always mean you’ll get the best pediatric care. Many pediatricians have too many patients to give you the time you need or even see you the same day. Insurance plans can have high deductibles, and urgent care can be expensive. The membership fee at Freedom Pediatrics and Wellness gives you direct access to me, Dr. Tina. This allows us to make sure all your questions are answered and concerns are handled. In this practice, I have the time to talk about sleep, nutrition, exercise, mental health, emotional health, and school performance. Together, we can create a plan to improve your family’s overall health.
